More on Heather Preston, Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce Employee of the Month for July 2009

What impresses everyone about Heather Preston — her colleagues, and Riger’s clients and vendors alike — is her very quiet, but tenacious, efficient, diplomatic and good-humored way of attacking large, complex projects. These are often tasks that at the outset may seem demoralizing to others. Yet, Heather has a way of conquering the challenges before you know it! In her unassuming, selfless way, she sets the example for work-ethic, problem-solving and good nature.

Heather has worked at Riger since 2006, prior to which she had interned with us in connection with her Cortland State B.A. studies. She did so well with her internship that, following her graduation, we offered her a full-time job. Ever since, she’s been making the trek to and from her Marathon, NY home each day to our downtown Binghamton offices. Everyone has taken notice of her valuable contribution to our team’s efforts. And they routinely seek her help with all manner of challenges. When you ask for her help, you can absolutely count on it.

Currently Heather performs many responsibilities at Riger. Primary among them is to coordinate content in scores of phone directories across a six-state region for Utility Shared Services Corporation (New York State Electric & Gas, Rochester Gas & Electric, Central Maine Power, Connecticut Natural Gas and Southern Connecticut Gas). This ongoing project requires her to be highly organized, to give extreme attention to detail, and give dogged pursuit to a host of directory publishers and their editorial and accounting departments.

Heather is a member of the Communications Association of the Southern Tier (CAST). She has chaired an internal team charged with organizing Riger’s involvement in CAST’s annual awards event, a task akin to herding reptiles.

On her own time, she is very active in her Church and alumni affairs at her former school, Cincinnatus Christian Academy. Additionally, she assists in various fund-raising activities in conjunction with the classes taught by her husband at Norwich Middle School.

Heather has begun her own business as a Mary Kay Consultant. She is also an enthusiastic snowmobiler in winter (with bumps on the head to prove it) and ATV-er in summer.

If you ever have to “take the field” against a big challenge, then you want Heather Preston on your team. She is the kind of employee every boss hopes to have on board. The Riger team wishes it could clone her!
